Tonight as I await the Senate vote regarding the establishment of a commission to investigate the insurrection that occurred four months ago on January 6, 2021, I feel compelled to record the events in several locations to ensure the truth survives in spite of the efforts to forget the violence and deaths all for perceived political gain.
I had started taking notes on the fools who insisted on objecting to the electoral votes in key states like Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania that helped clinch the presidency for Joe Biden. Earlier in the day, the former president and allies like Rudy Guiliani, Representative Mo Brooks of Alabama, and Jr., held a political rally to "encourage" Vice President Mike Pence to reject the vote certification and send them back to the states. What follows are the events as they happened in real time after I realized something was wrong:
January 6, 2021 --- Amid COVID-19 pandemic --- Borderline domestic terrorism
Supporters of the ousted 45 president protested and got inside the Capitol building during the certification of the 2020 election
Congresspeople instructed to take shelter
No police, no military present
Rioters got inside Statuary Hall, Rotunda (Activation word? Code word? Music?)
They [rioters, supporters of 45] claim to be for "law and order" and are breaking every law
Police request backup to regain control
Curfew declared for 6 p.m. in D.C.
Evacuation of VP Mike Pence - too dangerous because he stood up to 45; House floor being evacuated
June 1, 2020
45 ordered the clearing of peaceful protestors for BLM [Black Lives Matter] were tear gassed & trampled
No sign of this force today
Armed standoff on the House floor between police and protestors
Tear gas deployed inside the Rotunda; House members given gas masks
Armed protestor breached Senate floor; sitting in VP's chair in chamber
Anarchists use timber and riot shields to break windows to get inside
A woman is in critical condition after being shot in the chest on Capitol grounds (she later died)
Senate side cleared approximately 3:27 p.m.; [Rioters] pushed to Rotunda
Montgomery County, Maryland, Virginia State Police coming to help Capitol Police get control
Ivanka called rioters "American patriots"
Entire D.C. National Guard dispatched to Capitol; major numbers expected from VA & Maryland; joining forces
Multiple officers injured, at least 1 to the hospital
[Rioters] got inside Nacy Pelosi's office with manilla folder: "We will not back down."
Mike Pence rebukes rioters in statement
4:06 p.m. - President-elect Biden addresses violence in D.C.
4:11 p.m. - Police line on Capitol steps; possibly pushing crowd back
Rudy Guiliani, "Trial by combat"
Jon Ossoff & Raphael Warnock won Georgia run-off elections! Democrats win control of the Senate.
Riot police walk rioters down the steps (see June 1, 2020)
Pipe bombs found near DNC, RNC headquarters and Capitol complex
5:55 p.m. - Capitol building secure
Five died including one Captiol police officer, Brian Sicknick
In the days that followed, at least two more officers took their lives because the pain and trauma of the insurrection was too much to bear. 140 officers suffered injury, some leaving permanent, constant reminders of the "hugs and kisses" from the "tourists" from hell. This should never be ignored or forgotten, and as long as it's here, it won't be.
Update
May 28, 2021
All but six Senate Republicans have destroyed the opportunity to investigate every aspect of the January 6 insurrection in a bipartisan way. Now, we may never know where we are weak and desperately need improvements, but even worse any members of Congress who may hae played a role in this will face no accountability.
There is absolutely nothing to prevent this from happening again. Officer Sicknick, Officer Fanone, Officer Dunn, Officer Hodges, and all the other law enforcement officials who showed true courage and heroism when they did their duty by protecting and defending the cowards who won't do right by them with a proper investigation, I'm so sorry. You don't deserve this. Barring cowardice, selfishness, or guilt, there is no reason to strike down the 1/6 Commission.
These Senators are banking on the fact people have short memories and won't remember how the vote went down even though it's a matter of public record that can be looked up any time since this wasn't a secret ballot vote. It is up to the voters now. That is the only chance for a shred of accountability. The Republicans got everything they demanded in the bill. It should have passed overwhelmingly.
